El Gran Enemigo Single Vineyard Gualtallary shows a deep purple colour with red highlights. Its aromas are intense and elegant. Cabernet Franc brings sweet spices, black pepper and light notes of eucalyptus and thyme. Malbec brings notes of ripe black fruits, blackberries and black cherries. The oak aging gives a touch of chocolate and vanilla to the blend. The taste is complex, sweet impact with structured tannins and a very long and persistent finish. This wine was made in honour of the old Pomerol style, where Cabernet Franc was blended with the other Bordeaux varieties.
This wine is excellent with grilled meats and various cheeses.
98 Points - James Suckling
A perfumed and significant red on the nose with crushed blackberries, currant bush and rose petals. Full-body, fresh herbs, dense fruit and a racy finish. Very powerful.
98 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
I also tasted the 2014 Gran Enemigo Gualtallary Single Vineyard, which might take some months to come into the market. It has some balsamic aromas, medicinal hints, traces of orange peel, saffron and a touch of sweet spices. It's built around very fine tannins and a notable core of acidity that acts as the backbone, giving it length and lifting up the finish. This is quite in line with the 2010 vintage, power and freshness in a rare combination of clout and elegance only the very best wines manage to show.
