1 White Wine
A joint venture between Adrianna Catena, daughter of Nicolas Catena, and Alejandro Vigil, Chief Winemaker at Bodega Catena Zapata, El Enemigo Malbec is produced at Piedemonte al Sur, located in the southern foothills of Uco Valley, Mendoza. The facility is named for the unique aspect of Mendoza's high-altitude winemaking region nestled in the foothills of the Andes Mountains.
El Enemigo Chardonnay 2019 (1 bottle) Alejandro Vigil is a master of Chardonnay, as well as a man who likes to push boundaries, which is why this impressive white was made with a little flor, just like a Fino Sherry. Toasty, spicy and salty, this is briney and refreshing with some honeyed notes.
El Enemigo Malbec 2019 (1 bottle) Rich and concentrated, it offers aromas of black fruit, cherry and dark berry fruit on the nose followed on the palate by a full-bodied wine with flavours of spice, blackberry, black cherry, pepper and a slight floral character. The finish is elegant and lengthy. Pair this wine with rodizio, Lyonnaise sauces, grilled steaks, and barbecued ribs.
El Enemigo Bonarda "La Esperanza" 2018 (1 bottle) This sensational single vineyard Bonarda is little-known in Europe these days, but it has a special place in Argentina where it’s considered the nation’s second red wine after Malbec. La Esperanza is a very special 150-year-old vineyard that was about to be uprooted when it was discovered by Alejandro Vigil. Luckily he was able to save 5 hectares from which he makes a few hundred bottles of this wine each vintage.
Once in the winery, this precious fruit is vinified with wild yeasts and the young wine ages in large foudres that are over 100 years old. The result is a remarkably elegant and vibrant red that’s bursting with luscious red cherries, plums and blackberries as well as hints of dark chocolate. A charming wine to serve with tomato-based dishes thanks to the refreshing acidity, smooth tannins, and bright fruit flavours.
El Enemigo Cabernet Franc 2019 (1 bottle) 92 Points James Suckling -This amazing wine has aromas of fresh plums, raspberries, currants, tobacco leaves and bark. Medium-bodied with supple tannins and a creamy, vibrant and fresh palate. Juicy fruit. Drink now or hold.
