Product description

Over 30 years ago, Jack Cakebread came to photograph the Napa Valley for a book. Later that afternoon, he purchased a vineyard site, and Cakebread Cellars was born. The winery is a leader in innovative farming techniques and new methods of reaching out to consumers. Dedication to making the highest quality wines and a commitment to the family have followed a continuum as their first small vineyard has grown into a thriving, internationally distributed wine company.

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon has dense, concentrated aromas of ripe boysenberry, blackberry, dark plum and cassis, with a hint of spice, preface intense, intensely concentrated, blackberry, blackcurrant and dark cherry flavours, culminating in a long finish shot through with a blackberry fruitiness. A superb balance of rich fruit, bright acidity and polished tannins. A California classic! An excellent companion to beef, rich pork dishes and game.

91 Points - Jame Suckling

Ripe plums and blackberries with some coca-nib, vanilla, bread-crust and smoke notes. Full-bodied with velvety tannins, deep fruit and bright acidity. Tight and reserved, yet juicy, with a long finish. Approachable now, but better in 2022.

90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon is a blend of 88.2% Cabernet Sauvignon, 6.2% Merlot, 3% Petit Verdot, 1.1% Syrah, .5% Malbec, .5% Cabernet Franc and .5% Petite Syrah. Deep garnet-purple in colour, it offers vibrant scents of warm cassis, juicy blueberries and Black Forest cake with hints of dried herbs and tilled earth. The medium to full-bodied palate delivers mouth-coating black fruit preserves flavours with a soft, approachable texture and freshness, finishing with an herbal lift.
