aalborg-taffel-aquavit-700-ml
Aalborg Taffel Aquavit – 700 ml

This definitive Scandinavian botanical spirit originates from Denmark, produced under the historic Aalborg brand (dating back to 1846 and created by Isidor Henius). Affectionately known in Denmark as "Rød Aalborg" (Red Aalborg) due to its iconic red label, Aalborg Taffel Aquavit is the benchmark standard for classic Danish Taffel (table) akvavit. Distilled from grain-neutral spirit, it is redistilled with whole dried caraway seeds (Carum carvi) and amber distillate to yield an assertive, clear, savory botanical profile. Unaged and uncolored, it is bottled at traditional export strength of 90 proof (45.0% ABV) in a 700 ml bottle, adhering strictly to EU Appellation rules requiring caraway or dill as the dominant botanical flavor.

Spirit Description

This aquavit presents brilliant, crystalline water-white clarity with clean, brisk legs running along the glass. On the nose, it is pungent, savory, and unmistakably aromatic, driven by bold cracked caraway seed, rye bread crust, and fresh fennel, supported by secondary undertones of dried orange peel, anise, and a light pine-like herbaceous freshness. On the palate, the 45.0% ABV backbone delivers an assertive, punchy, and warming mouthfeel. An immediate burst of intense, spicy caraway and sweet licorice coats the tongue before opening into mid-palate nuances of citrus oil, crushed coriander seed, and cracked black pepper. Being completely unaged in oak, the spirit is crisp, dry, and razor-sharp with no residual sweetness or wood tannins. The finish is long, dry, and intensely warming, leaving persistent impressions of toasted caraway, rye grain spice, and a clean, refreshing herbal coolness.
