Chateau Calon Segur 2010
Web Price: $162.00
Chateau Calon Segur is a third growth in the Bordeaux 1855 classification. For much of its history, that ranking seemed justified, but of late, Calon Segur has been punching above its weight class. The style of Calon Segur until recently was masculine, sturdy, tannic, structured and traditional in its textures with a lean to a brawny type of St. Estephe, like Chateau Montrose perhaps, that often took more than decade or two, or longer to become civilized. Starting with the 2014 vintage, the wines have taken on a new style, that is soft and ripe.
2010 was made the old way, for good or bad, depends really on how you relate to pleasure deferred. The 2010 vintage is one of the best in some time. The average critic rating is 95 points. The wine itself is made up of 86% Cabernet Sauvignon, 12% Merlot and 2% Petit Verdot, which combine to produce a tannic, rich, powerful wine that expresses earth, forest floor, tobacco, blackberry, cassis and spice.
