Joseph Drouhin Chambolle Musigny 'Amoureuses' Premier Cru 2019
One of the most subtle wines in all of Burgundy! The colour may vary from cherry to ruby. A large palette of seductive aromas which can evolve, one minute to the next, from raspberry to kirsch. Later, the nose may display some truffle, mushroom or woody notes and, in some years, musky, even animal nuances. The aromas are always restrained and elegant. On the palate, a wonderful silky sensation, with very refined tannins. Intensity, velvety texture and lively freshness: this well-named wine is a masterpiece of harmony. The aftertaste is very delicate and leaves an impression of supreme refinement.
95 Points - Decanter
In the right hands, Les Amoureuses can produce one of Burgundy's most hauntingly graceful wines. Véronique Drouhin and her team have excelled in 2018, producing a Premier Cru with some clove and pepper spice notes from 40% whole bunches, 30% new wood and fine, fluid red berry flavours that glide across the tongue like a figure skater on ice. A Pinot lover's Pinot Noir. Drinking Window 2024 - 2033.
93+ Points - Vinous
The 2018 Chambolle-Musigny Les Amoureuses 1er Cru, matured with 40% whole bunch, has an intense, feisty bouquet with hints of fresh prune permeating the red and blue fruit; precocious floral scents emerge with aeration. The palate is medium-bodied with supple tannin and very refined (more so than the aromatics at the moment). The multifaceted, satin-like finish lingers long in the mouth. Not the very best Les Amoureuses that I have encountered from Drouhin at this stage, but it delivers exactly what this wine should offer.
