Joseph Drouhin Gevrey Chambertin Premier Cru 2019
2019 has kept the promise of quality of Burgundian vintages ending in 9. The beautiful maturities have provided ample and silky wines. They are charming and full of delicacy. Gevrey-Chambertin is a wine with a beautiful, bright ruby colour. Intensely fruity on the nose, the aromas are reminiscent of black cherry, wild blackberry and liquorice. The woody character is subtle and marries delicately with the other aromas. As the wine evolves, there are more complex notes, such as mild spice, nutmeg and leather. Later still, mushroom and damp earth nuances make their appearance. Although present on the palate, tannin is never astringent but blends itself harmoniously with the natural freshness and "gras" (velvety texture) of the wine. The same aromas encountered earlier on the nose are found again in the aftertaste
93 Points - James Suckling
A serious wine for this appellation with excellent red and black fruit that is beautifully underlined by the full, healthy tannins on the medium-to full-bodied palate. Very satisfying, long finish with quite some complexity. Drink or hold.
91 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
Drouhin's 2019 Gevrey-Chambertin Village bursts with aromas of cherries, cassis, sweet soil tones, grilled meats and orange rind. Medium to full-bodied, lively and layered, it's concentrated but elegant, with refined, powdery tannins and a sapid finish.
