Louis Jadot Montrachet Grand Cru 2018

Product description

The tale of Maison Louis Jadot began in 1826 with the purchase of the Beaune Premier Cru Clos des Ursules.  Three decades later, Louis Henri Denis Jadot laid the first stone, the start of the groundwork for a family-owned domaine in 1859. By establishing a negociant firm centred on selling Burgundy wines in Northern European markets, he would contribute to the renown of Burgundy wines. At the helm of the family business, his descendants followed in his footsteps.  Louis Jadot remains the benchmark of Burgundy wines.  As Robert Parker proclaimed, these are wines that ‘belong in any serious Burgundy collector’s cellar’.

On both the villages of Puligny Montrachet and Chassagne Montrachet, Le Montrachet is located to the south of the Côte de Beaune (like the Batard Montrachet Grand Cru).  With a south-south-eastern exposure, the terroir is exceptionally chalky with an abundance of stones, excellently drained, and easy to overheat.  To avoid damaging the grapes, they are harvested by hand and placed in compact cases. The grapes are gently crushed and fermented in oak barrels made by Louis Jadot's cooperage. 1/3 of the barrels are brand new. The grapes are fermented and matured in oak barrels for 18 to 20 months. Before bottling, the wine is aged for 15 months on fine lies.

This complex, powerful, full-bodied wine has aromas and flavors of honey, toast, white flowers, and white-fleshed fruit. It will develop favorably in the bottle for 20 years or more.

95 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate     There are nine barrels of the 2018 Montrachet Grand Cru (Maison Louis Jadot), a broad-shouldered, powerful wine that offers up aromas of pear, white flowers, buttered citrus and warm bread. On the palate, it's full-bodied, layered and fleshy, with a rounded, muscular profile and a long, resonant finish.
