Tenuta Tignanello 'Tignanello' - 3 Litre Bottle
The 2011 Tignanello is an intense ruby red in color with purple highlights. The wine is ripe on the nose with notes of dark fruit and with much underlying freshness on the aromatic finish; plum fruit dominates the aromatic gamut along with cherries, and the aromas evolve with vigor and balance towards sensations of mint and liquorice. On the palate, though still young, the wine is ready and inviting, rich and harmonious; excellent the balance of the flavors thanks to the tonic acidity and the solidity and suppleness of the tannins. The finish and aftertaste are rich and savory and are characterized by a sweet persistence and length.
95 Points - James Suckling Ruby, rose, clear colour. Fresh grapes, red fruit, marble and stone on the nose. Paprika, some cinnamon and fresh cherry on the palate. Light tannins develop structure and complexity. Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon.
95 Points - Vinous Kirsch, rose petal, pomegranate, exotic spices and mint are woven together in a fabric of notable class in the 2011 Tignanello. An exotic wine that captures the essence of the year, the 2011 is endowed with magnificent complexity, nuance and class. The silky, polished finish makes the 2011 incredibly appealing today, but the wines from this site have always aged very well. The 2011 is going to need time to shed some of its baby fat, but it will always remain extroverted and racy to the core. I can't wait to see how the 2011 ages.
93 Points - Decanter An exuberant, full-figured and precocious wine, portraying the generous warmth of the year. Macerated berries, cherry compote and dried Mediterranean herbs waft from the glass. On the palate ripe fleshy plum and black cherry are girdled with lavish tannins. While this vintage might not have the tension or freshness of previous and subsequent years, its heritage remains evident.
93 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate The 2011 Tignanello demonstrates a very ripe and fruit-forward personality with bursting cherry and blackberry folded within sweet spice, moist tobacco and honey-almond paste. Its texture is heavy and dense with sticky spots of sweetness (the alcohol is recorded at 14.5%). With such a fruit-heavy personality, the wine doesn’t reach the soaring heights or brilliant complexity we see in cooler vintages. It should veer toward a greater sense of focus and tightness with more bottle age.
93 Points - Wine Enthusiast One of the first Super Tuscan wines, this iconic blend of 80% Sangiovese, 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 5% Cabernet Franc opens with aromas of scorched earth, underbrush, ripe plum and a whiff of blue iris. The palate offers dried black cherry, prune, mocha, licorice and clove. Assertive but refined tannins provide the framework.
92 Points - Wine Spectator A powerful red, with plum, blackberry and black cherry flavours that border on jammy, all kept in check by juicy acidity and firm, dense tannins and leather and earth accents. Finishes long, with a mineral flourish.
