While each cru faithfully reflects its terroir, it is terroir as translated through Gros’ expert touch, offering richer aromatics, rounder curves, silkier tannins. The combination is irresistible, so much so that Gros’ very limited production is snapped up by global collectors faster and faster each vintage.

A fine pink purple colour. The nose is elegance personified but with a suggestion of fruit depth behind. A gorgeous suavity of fruit, fine at the front of the palate and continuing through behind. Little red berries and a faint touch of liquorice.

The 2022 Grands-Echezeaux Grand Cru is the maiden vintage under the Anne Gros label, the parcel having previously been vinified by Bernard Gros (Gros Frere & Soeur) under a fermage. It has a very well-defined bouquet, dark berry fruit intermixed with crushed limestone and wilted rose petals, understated at first and only gradually gaining intensity. The medium-bodied palate has filigree tannins, tensile from the start, with a keen thread of acidity. It fans out wonderfully towards the finish with a saline aftertaste. Precision is the keyword here rather than power. Superb.
