Kanonkop Pinotage 2014 - 6 Bottles

(Includes 6 units $67.83 each)

Product description

To many, Kanonkop is considered to be the South African equivalent of a Premier Cru or First Growth. For others, Kanonkop is not just a wine estate.

It is a place of natural beauty where hospitality, family values, tradition, history and interesting characters are as integral to our ability to create magnificent wines as the ancient decomposed granite soils, the cool air from the Atlantic Ocean and the old dryland vineyards.

The Pinotage is a very complex wine with hints of red fruit flavours which reflects some Pinot Noir style elegance and structure. Big, bold tannin structures which are down played by ripe tannins and elegance.

92 Points - James Suckling

Bright and delicious aromas of blackberries, blackcurrants, fruit compote and hints of vanilla and sweet spices. The full-bodied palate has a really fresh blueberry tinge that runs all the way through it with silky tannins and a long finish.

91 Points - Wine Spectator

A juicy, racy style, with deliciously pure plum and blackberry compote flavors enlivened by an anise note that lingers through the finish. Features dark fruit but remains bright and fresh in feel. Well done.

90 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

The 2014 Pinotage is matured for 16 months in 80% new oak. It offers a vivid and powerful bouquet of black cherries, licorice, melted tar and blueberries that seem to gush from the glass. The palate is powerful on the entry with bold tannin, but there is the acidity here to keep everything balanced and counter the layers of fruit with freshness and tension. As I have written before, Kanonkop know how to make a great Pinotage and this is a delight.
