Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo Bussia Colonnello 2016

Product description

This wine is ruby garnet in colour with an intensely perfumed nose characteristic of this vineyard. Aromas of aniseed, cherries and roses, with ripe plums give way to an elegant, fine plummy, mineral character on the palate. Tannins are sweet, concentrated and powerful, with a hint of cinnamon to lift the tightly-packed, smoky fruit. Long and perfumed to the end, with liquorice and rose petal perfumes on the finish.

96 Points - James Suckling     Very fine-grained with pretty berry, spice, roasted-nut and cedar aromas and flavors. It’s full-bodied and chewy, yet polished and intense. Very, very long.

95 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate     The Poderi Aldo Conterno 2016 Barolo Bussia Colonnello shows dark fruit intensity, dried cherry, spice, licorice and tilled earth. The wine delivers its aromas in a direct and immediate manner, with menthol and balsam herb fitting into oaky aromas of sweet spice. For whatever reason, I notice the oak more in Colonnello, but this will relax with time. The wine will be ready to drink after the 10-year mark.

95 Points - Wine Spectator     Menthol, vanilla and macerated cherry waft from the glass as this red settles into its core themes of cherry, plum, tar, tobacco, leather and spice. Muscular tannins hold court on the finish, yet well-proportioned, long and classy.

94 Points - Vinous     The 2016 Barolo Colonnello is a dark, bold, lush wine full of character. A blast of macerated black cherry, spice, leather, tobacco and menthol infuses the 2016 with striking depth. Resonant and ample, with notable character, the Colonnello is gorgeous in this tasting. In fact, it's one of the finest Barolos I have tasted from the Conterno brothers in a number of years. The substantial finish is a thing of beauty.
