Product description

Introduction

This red wine comes from the Barbaresco region of Piedmont, Italy, specifically from the Pora subregion. Produttori del Barbaresco is widely considered the benchmark cooperative of the region, only admitting quality-minded farmers who represent the village's best terroirs. Managed by Aldo Vacca, the winery is dedicated to a philosophy of high-level winemaking that showcases the pure expression of its members' exceptional fruit.

Wine Description

The 2020 Barbaresco Pora displays a medium-light ruby red colour with garnet highlights. It offers an aromatic and effusive nose featuring crushed flowers, spice, leather, tobacco, and wild cherry. On the palate, the wine is medium to full-bodied with a gracious texture, delivering flavours of succulent cherry, cranberry, star anise, and balsamic notes of menthol and eucalyptus. This 100% Nebbiolo wine is characterized by its fluid balance, fine-grained tannins, and a long finish that hints at earth and licorice. The ABV is 14.5%. While approachable today, the optimal drinking window extends from 2025 through 2045. The vineyard is farmed using sustainable practices.

Food Pairing

This wine's elegant structure and bright fruit profile make it an ideal companion for rich pasta dishes like pappardelle with duck ragu or fresh egg pastas with truffles. It also pairs beautifully with hearty red meats such as beef tenderloin, venison, or lamb chops. For cheese selections, consider aged varieties like Parmigiano-Reggiano or spicy hard cheeses.

Vintage Quality

The 2020 vintage in Barbaresco is regarded as high quality, characterized by a balanced growing season with no extreme weather events. Though summer was warm, cool evenings in August and September slowed the ripening of Nebbiolo, resulting in wines with great aromatic richness and excellent tannin structure.
