Vietti Barbaresco Masseria 2018

Product description

Located in the heart of the Langhe hills, at the top of the village of Castiglione Falletto, the Vietti wine cellar was founded in the late 1800's by Carlo Vietti. The estate has gradually grown over the course of time, and today the vineyards include some of the most highly prized terroirs within the Barolo and Barbaresco winegrowing areas.

Medium-intense ruby red color with light garnet hues. Quite intense nose with aromas of ripe red fruit (cherry), red and black berries in combination with refined floral (rose, mint) and mineral nuances. Medium to full-bodied on the palate, well-balanced. The tannins, ripe soft and silky, are well integrated in the wine’s fruit structure. The wine shows overall an incredible finesse and great complexity. Long final with good freshness.

Pair with stewed and roasted meats, wild game and seasoned cheeses.

94 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

This wine shows its MGA name "Roncaglie" on the front label for the first time. That's because Vietti recently acquired additional land in this cru site. The total holdings now span two hectares of vines. The 2018 Barbaresco Roncaglie Masseria is made as if it were a Barolo (instead of a Barbaresco) and is released one year after its peers. It shows tart fruit and dried cranberry with some mild spice and tarry smoke from two years in large oak casks.

93 Points - Wine Spectator

Starts with earthy aromas giving way to cherry, raspberry and savory hay and eucalyptus flavors, with more fruit coming to the fore with time in glass. Solidly built, this is dense, racy and compact on the menthol finish.
