Judith has captured all of the exuberance of this sunny, warm area of Austria near the Hungarian border, but eschewed the sweet oak influence which characterises the more famous Blaufrankisch wines of Burgenland’s past.
The most fruity, forward parcels are selected, fully destemmed, and fermented in stainless steel for only 10 days with very light extraction, it is then aged for 2 months in neutral acacia wood casks to harmonize before being transferred to large old oak barrels for a further 10 months to soften.
Dark ruby in colour, and quite opaque it has something of a dense appearance. The body, however, is medium weight and silky smooth with a refreshing hint of minerality. The soft and dark juicy fruit flavours are well balanced by the subtle earthy and spicy notes making an altogther very characterful and very drinkable wine.
