Product description

O'Shaughnessy's Howell Mountain estate vineyard resides on a one hundred and twenty acre hillside property that is now reaching full maturity at twenty years of age. Beginning in 1997 they planted twenty nine acres of Cabernet Sauvignon and six acres of the seven historic blending varietals, Cabernet Franc, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Malbec, Carmenere, St. Macaire and Gros Verdot.

The vines span three distinct vineyards. The Amphitheater Vineyard derives its name from its shape across the hillside and the Rancho Del Oso Vineyard its name from a resident black bear who visits from time to time. Newest to O'Shaughnessy is their Osprey's Nest Vineyard which is shared with a young family of Osprey.

97 Points - Wine Enthusiast (Editors Choice)   This is such an outstanding wine at any price, but here we’re talking about outstanding value as well. Notes of iron and crushed rock lead to a lengthy balance of juicy red fruit and clove. With small amounts of Merlot, Malbec, Saint-Macaire and Cabernet Franc, it shows a deft hand at blending, with lasting notes of black pepper and nuanced oak.

93 Points - James Suckling   Blue flowers and fruit on the nose, as well as licorice, tea leaf and dark chocolate. It’s medium-bodied with firm, tight tannins and fresh acidity. A distinct, saline streak cuts through the dark fruit

93 Points - Vinous    The 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon (Napa Valley) is a fabulous wine that overdelivers big time. Inky dark fruit, graphite, lavender, spice, menthol and licorice give the 2018 its distinctly savory, soil-driven personality. Time in the glass brings out attractive floral overtones. The tannins need time to soften, but there is a lot to look forward to. This is a very serious, polished wine. O'Shaughnessy's Napa Valley Cabernet remains one of the hidden jewels in Napa Valley.

Decanter    Pipe tobacco and black cherries on the nose. Texturally, the most focused and persistent of the O'Shaughnessy Cabernets. The palate is both generous and nimble, showing substantially chewy, textbook Howell Mountain tannins. A rustic Cabernet housed in a contemporary core.
