Chateau Doisy-Daene is situated on the Barsac plateau. This area is characterized by a unique geological formation. There is a thin layer of clayey sand referred to as "the red sands of the barsacais" which rest upon limestone subsoils. This porous limestone traps the rainfall during the winter and makes it available for the vines later on in the growing season. This contributes to the exceptional finesse of the wines from Chateau Doisy-Daene.
L’Extravagant de Doisy-Daene was born in 1990. This rare and exceptional Cuvee resulted from an experiment carried out by Denis Dubourdieu. The latter wanted to experiment with making a Cuvee from a Sauvignon Blanc with noble rot and taken to the extreme. The grapes were thus harvested at the beginning of November with a great richness in sugars, high alcohol potential and very concentrated flavours. Since 1990, only the best vintages have been produced of this wine and in very limited quantities.
Tasted as a wine future, L'Extravagant de Doisy-Daene displays a beautiful yellow colour with golden reflections. From the very first moment, the nose exudes delicious aromas of citrus zest, candied fruit, summer plums ripened in the sun and hints of tobacco leaves. On the palate, this 100% Sauvignon Blanc impresses with its dense texture, its smoothness and a certain salinity, which create a perfect balance. An exceptional vintage of L’Extravagant de Doisy-Daene, which will undoubtedly have the potential to age for decades.
