After 20 years of building Chateau Ste. Michelle and its affiliate wineries into an international brand, Washington wine visionary Allen Shoup had a new vision: to create a group of ultra-premium wines, each with an exceptional international winemaker, working together to elevate Washington wine to true world-class status. The result is Long Shadows Vintners and some of Washington's most acclaimed wines.

Aromas of blackberries, blueberries and violets with cloves and black pepper. Spiced chocolate. Full body, chewy tannins and a long, flavorful finish. A big wine, but I love the form, structure and intensity.

Put together by John Duval, the 2017 Sequel (100% Syrah fermented with 30% stems) is a ripe, sexy wine in the same ballpark as past vintages. Rocking notes of blackcurrants, blackberries, peppered game, licorice, and subtle chocolate all flow to a powerful, full-bodied Syrah with good purity of fruit, ripe, chewy tannins, a bid mid-palate, and an excellent finish. It's a touch unevolved and in need of a year or three of bottle age, but it's a beautiful wine that will evolve for 8-10 years or more.
93 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate
An instant success, the 2017 Syrah Sequel bounces out of the glass with precision, power and finesse with juicy blackberry reduction and black pepper spices woven into black cherry essence and plum preserves, with hints of dried herbs, baked earth and river rock. Full-bodied, the mouth-coating sensation from these generous fruit tones shows a beautifully balanced Syrah with succulent tones of black and red fruit, black pepper and purple flowers. The wine ends with lifting tannins on the long, immaculate, slightly chewy finish. This is food-friendly and over-delivering at this price. Bravo!

Bright ruby-red. Musky perfume of dark raspberry, black olive, bitter chocolate and brown spices, plus a subtle hint of animal fur. Silky and seamless on entry, as many red fruits as black in the sweet middle palate, with floral and spice notes adding clarity and lift. A bit less meaty than the 2016 version, but that's no complaint, as this wine shows a good deal of personality and more delicacy and restraint. Today this wine displays the fruity side of 2017. This wine will give pleasure early but also last well.
