The Azelia 2014 Margheria Barolo is a beautiful example of this vintage. The scents of sliced strawberries, cherries, fresh-cut flowers, licorice, spices, and damp stones all gain shape as the wine slowly unwinds in the glass. It is elegant and classy. On the palate, this is tightly wrapped, has a core of brilliant red fruits that remain memorable throughout the extraordinarily long finish, and has a beautiful overall structure. There is no doubt about the 2014's quality, but it is still relatively restrained at this young age and needs a lot of time in the cellar to mature and soften. It undoubtedly can develop nicely over time, but persistence will be crucial.

Savoury, boasting lavender, juniper and mint aromas, yet there are sweet ripe cherry and plum fruit flavours for balance. It builds to a long finish, where big tannins reign.
