The Azelia 2014 Margheria Barolo is a beautiful example of this vintage. The scents of sliced strawberries, cherries, fresh cut flowers, licorice, spices, and damp stones all gain shape as the wine slowly unwinds in the glass. It is elegant and classy. On the palate, this is tightly wrapped, has a core of brilliant red fruits that remain memorable throughout the extraordinarily long finish, and a wonderful overall structure. There is no doubt about the 2014's quality, but it is still quite restrained at this young age and needs a lot of time in the cellar to mature and soften. All things considered, it undoubtedly has the capacity to develop nicely over time, but persistence will be crucial.
93 Points - Wine Spectator Savoury, boasting lavender, juniper and mint aromas, yet there is sweet ripe cherry and plum fruit flavours for balance. Builds to a long finish, where big tannins reign. Best from 2023 through 2043.
