Nikolaihof Hefeabzug Wachau Gruner Veltliner 2020

Product description

Cherry blossom, anise, flint; zingy with dense minty mineral notes, light but curiously dense, jammed with flavor.

91 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate    The 2020 Grüner Veltliner Hefeabzug is very clear and bright in color and flavors, with refreshing lime and lemon zest aromas, great precision, definition and finesse. Quite substantial on the palate, this is a textural, intense, refreshing and remarkably persistent Veltliner with serious grip and a stimulating citric bitter note on the finish. Tasted at the domaine in June 2021. Nikolaus Saahs was "very satisfied" with the 2020 vintage in the summer, although he had first spring frosts, and then the hail on August 22 "fully caught" and significantly decimated the yields. The harvest was correspondingly laborious due to meticulous selections, but the painstaking work was worth it in the end. But as always here, the recent vintage is only a part of the collection, which goes back to the 2007 (Riesling Steinriesler) and even 2002 (Vinothek) vintages here.

90 Points - James Suckling    Sur-lie maturation has really helped this light and vibrant gruner veltliner find very satisfying balance. Attractive red and green apple fruit and the acidity crunch to match. Long, clean and pure finish. From biodynamically grown grapes with Demeter certification. Drink now. Screw cap.
