From Domaines Barons de Rothschild (DBR) Lafite’s winery in China, Domaine de Long Dai 2018 is the second vintage of the domaine’s main label.
The 2018 vintage of Long Dai is a blend of 75% Cabernet Sauvignon, 17% Marselan and 8% Cabernet Franc.
The proportion of Cabernet Sauvignon in the 2018 vintage is slightly higher than the inaugural 2017 vintage, giving the wine higher level of tannins and more robust structure.
Domaine de Long Dai’s vineyards are planted on granite soil terraces in the the foothills of the Qiushan Valley in Penglai in China’s northeastern Shandong province. Harvesting was done by hand in successive pickings. The wine was then aged in French oak barrels from DBR Lafite's own cooperage in the Pauillac region of Bordeaux.
According to Olivier Trégoat, Technical Director of DBR Lafite, the climate condition in 2018 in Qiushan Valley was very beneficial to the Cabernet Sauvignon vines planted on the hillside, leading to very high quality grapes. "We can say that this vintage is a big wine,” Trégoat said. “With strong yet elegant tannins, Long Dai 2018 shows a personality unique to the granite soils in Qiushan Valley, and that is what me and the team want to achieve,” he added.
Long Dai 2018 is described as having a deep colour, with ripe black fruit aromas and obvious spice signature. The winery said this vintage has a bolder and more aromatic style than the 2017 vintage.
