Product description

Founded in 2007 by the Michelini brothers (Gerardo, Matias, and Juan Pablo) alongside Canadian partners, Zorzal Wines sits high in the sub-region of Gualtallary within Mendoza's Uco Valley. Situated at an extreme elevation of over 1,300 meters, Zorzal is widely recognized as a pioneer in shifting Argentina away from heavy, over-extracted Malbecs toward precise, mineral-driven, and high-acid Alpine styles.

Climax sits at the absolute pinnacle of Zorzal's hierarchy. Produced only in exceptional years through micro-vinifications, the Zorzal Malbec Climax 2011 represents an unrepeatable snapshot from the estate’s unique, chalk-rich, calcareous soils.

Wine Description

The Zorzal Malbec Climax 2011 opens with a deep, dark garnet color, reflecting its age and intensity. Unlike typical warm-climate Malbecs, the nose is dark, austere, and deeply complex, wafting aromas of blackberry, dark plum, graphite, and lavender, underscored by striking notes of dried herbs, eucalyptus, licorice, and tobacco leaf.

On the palate, the wine balances high-altitude freshness with muscular depth. The chalky, granite-rich terroir of Gualtallary imparts fine, textured tannins and a firm backbone, preventing any sense of jamminess. Crisp Alpine acidity cuts through dark berry fruit and spice, carrying into a long, mineral, and slightly saline finish.

Aged in neutral and seasoned French oak barrels to preserve varietal purity, the 2011 Climax is now fully mature and drinking beautifully.
