Bodega Chacra - Patagonia
Founded in 2004 by Piero Incisa della Rocchetta, Bodegas Chacra is a boutique winery in Patagonia’s Río Negro Valley, dedicated to crafting world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Piero, the grandson of Marchese Mario Incisa della Rocchetta, the legendary creator of Sassicaia, sought a unique terroir to produce elegant, terroir-driven wines. His search led him to Patagonia, where old vines, a pristine climate, and biodynamic farming practices shape Chacra’s distinct identity.
Chacra’s vineyards include ungrafted, pre-phylloxera Pinot Noir vines planted in 1932, 1955, and 1967, as well as younger Chardonnay vines developed in collaboration with Jean-Marc Roulot of Meursault. The estate is farmed organically and biodynamically, emphasizing minimal intervention and native yeast fermentations to maintain purity and energy in the wines.
Bodegas Chacra produces a focused selection of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, showcasing Patagonia’s remarkable potential:
- Treinta y Dos – A single-vineyard Pinot Noir from vines planted in 1932, Chacra’s most refined and age-worthy wine.
- Cincuenta y Cinco – Pinot Noir from 1955 vines, offering balance, freshness, and complexity.
- Sin Azufre – A natural Pinot Noir made without added sulfur, crafted from biodynamically farmed vineyards for a pure, vibrant expression.
- Barda – A vibrant and accessible Pinot Noir made from a blend of younger vines and declassified lots.
- Chacra Chardonnay – Crafted in partnership with Jean-Marc Roulot, this elegant, Burgundian-style Chardonnay comes from carefully selected vineyards.
- Mainqué Chardonnay – A second Chardonnay bottling, also made with Roulot’s expertise, known for its precision and mineral drive.
With an unwavering commitment to expressing Patagonia’s terroir, Bodegas Chacra has established itself as Argentina’s premier producer of Pinot Noir and a rising star in Chardonnay.
