Bonarda

Bonarda is a stealthy red wine option that is making a big splash in the industry. Coming from Argentina, it has often been overlooked, thanks to the world famous Malbec. These days, however, it’s Argentina’s second most widely planted red grape!

At first, Bonarda wines are usually very fruity, with slight notes of black cherry, plum, and blueberry. Later, they turn more complex, with aromas of violet, spices and peonies. If the wine has been oaked, one may also recognize notes of cigars, chocolate and sweet figs.

Surprisingly exotic, Bonarda is very easy to drink with its burst of fruitiness, a medium-body and a low tannin finish. If you dislike oaky wines, you may have just accidentally found a diamond in the rough! 

Bonarda delivers a lot more juicy tasting acidity and a moderate level of alcohol at 13.5% or less. No wonder it’s been getting more and more attention all across the globe, especially in theUnited States andCanada.

Due to the wine’s higher acidity and lower tannin, Bonarda will go well with many different foods. Unlike a lot of red wines that favour rich meats,Argentina’s Bonarda will do wonders with a combination of sweet and sour flavors, like those from the South Pacific. To be honest, it’s really hard to go wrong with Bonarda, as it matches well with most meats, including chicken and fish and any sides you can think of!
