Corvina is a grape variety born in Italy. While not nearly as popular asCabernet Sauvignon or Chardonnay, its unique flavour and high acidity make it an excellent addition to dinner. Produced almost exclusively in Italy, there are also around 50 acres of the grapevine in Argentina
The grape produces light to medium body wines. The acidity is quite high and the wine is often tart, with a note of bitter almond. The finish is often full with notes of sour cherry. Depending on the region, some wines may be barrel aged to add more structure and complexity. The Corvina berries are low in tannins and colour extract, but are known to have thick skins that are perfect for drying and protecting the grape from rot.
The vine ripens late and is often prone to producing high yields. Some believe that higher yields impact the quality of the wine, but others argue that’s a complete myth. Whether that’s real or a myth doesn’t really apply to Corvina, as it’s definitely a fantastic wine that's perfect for drinking by itself or pairing with a meal.
