The keg is truly something of special fascination for beer lovers. There is a good reason most of us ask “what’s on tap” when at a bar - for some reason, the beer just tastes much better this way. If you are having a big BBQ or a group of friends over, renting a keg pretty much always guarantees a successful party.
If you decide on getting a keg, there are a couple of things to consider.
First, the size. Kegs come in a number of sizes, generally ranging from 18.5L to 59L (with 20L, 30L, and 50L in between). That equals to around 57 individual beers in the smallest kegs and over 170 in the largest - so make sure to invite a lot of beer lovers!
Second, decide on what beer to get. If you are hosting a party with a bunch of your friends, getting some sort of a crowdpleaser is usually the best, even if you are the biggest IPA lover in the world. Don’t forget to get some ice as cooling the beer is crucial.
Make sure to order the keg in advance. Kegs last anywhere from one to six months when sealed, so the store may not have your keg on hand if you were to just walk in. All you have to do is order it a couple of days prior to the party and you’ll be set!
Renting a keg is a great (and often quite cost-efficient) way to take care of all the beverage needs and add a little sense of occasion. Whether you are hosting a local Oktoberfest party or want to start the BBQ season with a big bang, a keg is a right way to go!
