Product description
The 2019 Poderi Aldo Conterno Barolo Bussia Romirasco is an expression of Nebbiolo from the renowned Bussia cru in Monforte d’Alba, Piedmont. This wine reflects the mastery of the Conterno family in crafting structured and elegant Barolo with exceptional depth and aging potential.
Vineyard and Production
Sourced from the Romirasco vineyard, one of the finest sites within Bussia, this wine benefits from calcareous-clay soils rich in iron, which contribute to its power and complexity. The vines, averaging 50–55 years old, enjoy optimal sun exposure, allowing the fruit to achieve perfect ripeness. Hand-harvested in mid-October, the grapes undergo 30 days of maceration in stainless steel, followed by extended aging in large Slavonian oak casks to enhance its balance and refinement.
Tasting Notes
- Appearance: Deep garnet red with ruby reflections, evolving to orange hues with age.
- Aroma: A layered bouquet of red cherries, wild strawberries, and dried roses, with hints of spice, tobacco, and earthy truffle.
- Palate: Full-bodied and structured, with fine-grained tannins, vibrant acidity, and flavors of red fruit, licorice, leather, and balsamic undertones. The finish is long, persistent, and refined, with a touch of minerality.
Critical Acclaim
- 98 points (community reviews) – Celebrated for its depth, elegance, and aging potential.
Serving and Pairing
Decanting for at least an hour enhances its aromatic complexity. Best served at 16-18°C (61-64°F), this Barolo pairs beautifully with braised meats, wild game, aged cheeses, and truffle-based dishes. Its structure also makes it an excellent companion to hearty pasta dishes like tajarin with ragù.
