Product description

Origin: Argentina, Uco Valley, Mendoza

Winery Background: Luca Winery, established by Dr. Laura Catena, is dedicated to preserving Mendoza's old vines and highlighting the region's rich viticultural heritage. By collaborating with small-scale growers, Luca ensures the continuation of traditional farming practices, resulting in wines that authentically express their unique terroirs.

Wine Description: This Malbec displays a deep purple-red hue. Aromas of spice and black cherry cola intertwine with cocoa nuances. On the palate, vibrant berry flavors are complemented by lively acidity, culminating in a finish with hints of espresso.

Accolades:

  • James Suckling – 94 points: "A nicely saline and concentrated Malbec here with plenty of peppercorn and dark spices to the black cherries. Full-bodied but still fluid on the palate with abundant, silky tannins."
  • Wine Spectator – 93 points: "A complex red, with an undercurrent of river stone to the orange peel and mountain herb notes that meld with rooibos tea and Rainier cherry flavors on a richly textured frame, while a gentle nudge of fresh acidity carries everything onto the finish around fine tannins and notes of dark chocolate."
  • Wine Advocate – 92 points: "The 2021 Old Vine Malbec is floral, aromatic, balanced, fresh, and varietal with notes of violets and small berries. It has integrated oak and a tender mouthfeel with a medium body and fine tannins."
  • Wine Enthusiast – 91 points: "Dr. Laura Catena sources grapes from old vineyards in the Uco Valley for this fruit-focused and silky-textured Malbec. It boasts flavors of blackberry, mulberry, and plum backed by fine tannins. A whisper of dried herbs and spices adds more layers to the palate."

Food Pairing: This Malbec pairs excellently with venison, wild game, steak, pork, quail, all types of lamb, and medium-strong cheeses.

Vintage Quality: The 2021 vintage in the Uco Valley experienced favorable conditions, leading to wines that are balanced, fresh, and varietally expressive.
