Bard Muhlenberg Kentucky Bourbon Whiskey is a hand-crafted, small-batch spirit produced in Graham, Kentucky. It is the flagship wheated expression from The Bard Distillery, which was founded in 2019 by Thomas and Kim Bard. The distillery is located in a historic 1920s school building on a hill overlooking the coal-mining town of Graham in Muhlenberg County. This specific bourbon is intended as a "heartfelt tribute" to the hard-working miners of the region and is often referred to as the "Spirit of Muhlenberg".
Spirit Description
Unlike the distillery's Cinder & Smoke line, which typically uses a rye-forward mash bill, the Muhlenberg Bourbon is a wheated bourbon. It is distilled, aged, and bottled onsite at the distillery.
Mash Bill: A combination of corn, wheat, and malted barley.
Appearance: A warm, rich amber hue.
Nose: Inviting and sweet, featuring prominent aromas of warm caramel, vanilla bean, and toasted oak, with subtle hints of dried fruits and baking spices.
Palate: Known for a smooth, velvety, and full-bodied mouthfeel. It is dominated by flavours of sweet butterscotch, toffee, and dark chocolate, beautifully balanced by notes of ripe cherry and cinnamon.
Finish: Long and highly satisfying, leaving a lingering sensation of sweet caramel and gentle oak.
Technical Details: Bottled at a robust 105 proof (52.5% ABV), though it is noted for being "surprisingly smooth" for its high alcohol content.
