Dal Forno is principally known for its famous Amarone Della Valpolicella. Established in 1983, the winery is situated in the Valley of Illasi, a valley to the east of Verona.
After decantation in the middle of January, the Amarone, which still contains some residual sugars, is placed into new barriques, where it begins a slow fermentation process which will last for a further 18 months. The total amount of time that it remains in the barriques is 36 months. The wine is bottled and left to age for a further 24 months before the final product is ready for sale.
99 Points - Decanter
The strongest wine, this magnificent Amarone's alcohol is barely visible thanks to its astonishing depth, texture and sumptuousness. Pressed black fruits seep with fruit essences, smoke and cinders, herbal complexities, and teasing floral notes, all engraved into a palate that expresses creamy finesse but without a trace of superfluous fat, heat or obviousness.
97 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Enthusiast
An incredible wine that has magically managed to maintain the fresh acidity associated with the more remarkable part of the growing season. It also shows the inky black concentration and ripeness that is reflective of the hottest part of the summer. I am impressed by the tannic management, as the wine is silky and fine at this early stage. However, the underlying structure promises a long aging future, should you choose to put your bottle aside. Overall, this vintage is slightly more accessible and ready to drink if you don't have the patience for cellar aging.
95 Points - Vinous
Very deep, intense aromas of blackcurrant, plums macerated in alcohol, soy sauce, coffee and underbrush on the complex nose. Rich, dense and balanced, with nicely focused flavours of dark berries and aromatic herbs that have a noteworthy savoury tang. The long finish features repeating hints of soy sauce, espresso and underbrush. Dal Forno is the recognized master of a uniquely powerful, ripe, and concentrated style of Amarone.
95 Points - Wine Enthusiast
Very dark fruits on the nose with hints of bark and dried flowers. Full body, soft and silky tannins with a chewy finish. Loads of dark chocolate and berry. Flavourful and balanced.
