This wine is from South Africa, specifically the Stellenbosch region. Mulderbosch celebrates the great Bordeaux tradition of blending, and the 'Faithful Hound' label honours a dog that kept a three-year vigil outside an empty cottage on the farm after being abandoned by its master. The goal with each bottling of Faithful Hound is to produce a rich, complex wine that comfortably expresses old world class and the generosity of fruit associated with Stellenbosch.
2. Wine Description
The Faithful Hound is a Bordeaux-style blend. The 2022 vintage is a blend of 37% Cabernet Sauvignon, 25% Cabernet Franc, 18% Petit Verdot, 18% Merlot, and 2% Malbec.
Sensory Profile: The wine has a purple core with a deep red outer rim. It offers a youthful entrance with aromas of bramble berry, baked rhubarb, and dense, ripe plum. Notes of licorice and a faint inkling of earthy and herbaceous fynbos lead to a full palate of sweet berry fruit, accompanied by elegant matching oak maturation and polished, medium-chewy tannins. It is full-bodied and rich, with flavours of spiced plum, blueberry, raspberry, and blackberry. It has a bright, structured, and juicy palate with good purity and length.
ABV: The alcohol by volume is 13.5%.
