The vines are planted in red sandstone/clay soil full of iron-rich concretions that are found in a diverse mixture of sands, gravels, and different pebbles. They are rich in shells of all kinds, as a result of marine sedimentation. It's a unique soil in that it retains water well to generously nurture the vines while draining well; an indication of exceptional terroir.
