The Cuvee Sir Winston Churchill, a prestigious cuvee from Maison Pol Roger, was created in homage to Sir Winston Churchill, with references to the qualities he appreciated in Champagne: robustness, structure and maturity. Even if its exact composition is a secret jealously guarded by members of the Pol-Roger family, it is undeniable that it is based on a formula that its dedicatee would not have denied.
"My tastes are simple, I am easily satisfied with what is best", he liked to say...
Composed exclusively of grapes from the Grands Crus of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay already in production under the era Churchillian, it is only made in the best vintages. The predominance of Pinot Noir undoubtedly ensures the structure, fullness and robustness of the whole, while Chardonnay gives it elegance, finesse and impertinence.
96 Points - James Suckling
Very complex nose with a wide spectrum of candied citrus, dried peach and mirabelle tart aromas. Bold and rich, particularly on the mid-palate, but with a great deal of subtlety and delicacy for the vintage. This is already delicious, but at the finish you really taste how this has been made for the long term. Great drive and persistence right at the end.
95 Points - Wine Spectator
A tightly meshed Champagne, with an up-front, broad feel that's quickly reined in and well-defined by racy acidity. Creamy on the palate, with the fine mousse carrying flavors of crème de cassis, lemon-infused pastry cream, smoked almond and oyster shell. Long, harmonious finish. Drink now through 2038.
