Shadow Canyon Cellars 'Amila' 2004
Product description
Syrah in Amila blend comes from Shadow Canyon Vineyard in the York Mountain Appellation. Shadow Canyon is a mountain vineyard located on California's central coast. Located in the East-West corridor known as the Templeton Gap, the vineyard lies at 1,600’ elevation approximately 8 miles from the ocean. The corridor allows cool marine air and fog to roll into the vineyard, which experiences daytime highs in the 80’s and 90’s with nighttime lows in the 40’s. This large diurnal temperature swing promotes a long growing season and balanced fruit development.
The Larner Vineyard is located on a 150 acre family-owned piece of land on Ballard Canyon in the Santa Ynez Valley (Santa Barbara County, California). Of these, 33 acres are planted to Rhone grape varietals.
92 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate The 2004 Amila is a brilliant blend of Syrah and Grenache from the Shadow Canyon and Larner vineyards. Elegant, with great delineation, flavor depth, intensity, and balance, it reveals notes of cassis, kirsch, licorice, charcoal, and subtle wood in its full-bodied, opulent, well-made yet structured personality. Consume it over the next 10-12 years. If you haven’t yet gotten on the Shadow Canyon bandwagon, time is running short!
