Introduction

Produced in the iconic region of Tuscany, Italy, this wine is a distinguished expression of the Toscana IGT. The Avignonesi estate, one of the most renowned in the region, passed into the hands of Belgian industrialist Virginie Saverys in 2008, who spearheaded a complete transformation toward organic and biodynamic viticulture. Named after 'Desiderio', a legendary bull that lived on the estate over a century ago and helped define the local Chianina cattle race, this wine reflects a winemaking philosophy centered on the natural balance between vine and soil.

Wine Description

This 100% Merlot displays an intense, deep ruby red colour with slight garnet reflections. The bouquet is explosive and complex, offering a wide array of aromas including cherry and plum jam, black tea, rhubarb, and graphite, with final touches of cardamom, liquorice, and dark chocolate. On the palate, the wine is bursting and deep, characterized by the silky, linear tannins typical of a Tuscan Merlot. It is tastefully juicy, layering flavours of blackberries and blueberries with savoury notes of black pepper, coconut, and balsamic-tinged black cherries. This medium- to full-bodied red is well-structured and refined, with a long-lasting finish that highlights a persistent mineral vein. It is best enjoyed from 2026 through 2037.
