Product description

Vega Sicilia Valbuena No 5 2020

Introduction

Produced in Spain, this prestigious red wine hails from the renowned Ribera del Duero region. Bodegas Vega Sicilia, founded in 1864, is widely considered Spain's most iconic winery, a reputation solidified since the Alvarez family took ownership in 1982. The winery's philosophy is rooted in a dedication to excellence and a deep respect for nature, ensuring that each wine, such as the Valbuena No 5, is released only after a rigorous five year maturation process in wood and bottle.

Wine Description

The 2020 Valbuena No 5 displays an intense ruby red colour that is clean and bright in the glass. On the nose, it offers a complex and ethereal bouquet of ripe black fruits, such as blackberries and blueberries, interwoven with balsamic notes, cedar, and a delicate touch of violet. The palate is medium to full bodied and elegantly structured, revealing a silky texture and melted tannins alongside flavours of red cherry, minerals, and a subtle hint of cocoa powder. This vintage is characterized by its refined balance, freshness, and a long, lingering finish that reflects the pure essence of its terroir.

This wine is a blend of 97% Tinto Fino (Tempranillo) and 3% Merlot, sourced from vines with an average age of 33 years situated at high altitudes. The 2020 vintage is approachable from 2025, yet it possesses the structure and concentration to age gracefully for decades, with an optimal drinking window extending toward 2040 and beyond.
