Vinedo Chadwick 2019

Product description

Vinedo Chadwick has its own very particular history. In 1942, Don Alfonso purchased the 300 hectares Vina San Jose de Tocornal estate and its vineyards in the Maipo Valley's Puente Alto appellation, long considered Chile's best land for Cabernet Sauvignon. It was on this site that he built his home and polo field, where he practised his beloved sport daily, becoming one of the best polo players in the history of Chile.

The property was later sub-divided and only 25 hectares were left in the family bands. Eduardo Chadwick, foreseeing the potential of chis unique terroir, convinced his father to convert his much-loved polo field into a vineyard. This led to the creation of Vinedo Chadwick in 1992 when 15 hectares were planted with Cabernet Sauvignon vines on Alfonso's former polo ground. Don Alfonso passed away in 1993 and never saw the finished wine.

99 Points - James Suckling

Subtle and very beautiful with currants, tarragon, basil and rose petals in the aromas. It's full-bodied, yet agile and so fine-textured with superb tannins that provide multi-layers on the palate. It's refined, yet powerful at the end. Suggests greatness and longevity. Lots of blackcurrants, stones and violets in the after taste. Cabernet sauvignon with a touch of petit verdot.

97 Points - Robert Parker's Wine Advocate

I was truly impressed by this vintage, especially because of its elegance and freshness. There are showy aromas reminiscent of tangerine and flowers, ripe red berries (rather than black) and a spicy twist from the oak but nothing herbal or balsamic that one could expect given the moderate ripeness. The grapes were picked very early, and the wine follows the path of the 2016, the coolest vintage so far, with juicy fruit, elegance and great tension. This feels exceptional and transcends the style of the year.

96 Points - Vinous

Vinedo Chadwick 2019 is mostly Cabernet Sauvignon with a 3% dash of Petit Verdot from a vineyard planted in 1992 in the Puente Alto region. The wine was 75% aged in new oak and 25% in French foudres.
