Product description

Introduction

Erdinger Alkoholfrei is a non alcoholic wheat beer produced in the town of Erding, Germany. The brewery was established in 1886 by Johann Kienle and was later acquired in 1935 by Franz Brombach, who gave the company its current name in 1949. Ownership was subsequently passed to his son, Werner Brombach, who recently transferred his shares to a non profit family foundation to ensure the brewery remains independent.

Spirit Description

This non alcoholic brew presents a hazy, straw yellow appearance topped with a fine, tall white froth. The aromatic profile features spicy malt notes and subtle hops, layered with delicate hints of brioche, banana, and clove. On the palate, it offers a rich malt flavour with caramel sweet nuances and a stimulating bitterness from aroma hops. The body is medium and velvety with creamy carbonation, leading to a clean, fresh finish with a hint of light, fruity acidity. It contains less than 0.5% alcohol by volume.

Food Pairing

The malty character and effervescence of this wheat beer make it a versatile companion for various dishes. It pairs exceptionally well with freshly baked, soft pretzels, as the toasted malt notes highlight the salty crust. For a more substantial meal, it complements boiled mussels or light starters like fried fish. The beer also acts as a refreshing palate cleanser for richer fare, such as grain salads or roasted vegetable dishes.

Distinctive Features

Erdinger Alkoholfrei is distinguished as an isotonic beverage, making it a popular choice for sports recovery due to its ability to help the body regenerate after physical exertion. It contains essential vitamins B9 (folic acid) and B12, which support the immune system and energy metabolism, along with natural polyphenols. Brewed according to the Bavarian Purity Law using only water, wheat malt, barley malt, hops, and yeast, it is also low in calories, containing only 25 kcal per 100 ml.

Serving Suggestions

To enjoy the full sensory experience, this beer should be served well chilled in a tall weissbier glass. A traditional technique involves pouring most of the beer into the glass before swirling the final portion in the bottle to release the settled yeast, then topping it off to create a classic cloudy finish. It is a refreshing alternative for social gatherings, sporty occasions, or as a lively way to quench thirst without the effects of alcohol.
