Product description

Pilsgnar is a technical masterpiece from Calgary’s The Establishment Brewing Company. While they are famous for their "juice-bomb" IPAs, Pilsgnar is where they flex their traditional brewing muscles. This is a quintessential German-style Pilsner a beer that is famously difficult to brew because there is nowhere for flaws to hide. It is designed for "crushability" and crispness, serving as a bright, bitter, and bracingly clean alternative to the heavy, hazy ales that dominate the modern craft scene.

Beer Description

Pilsgnar pours a brilliant, crystal-clear pale straw-gold with a massive, rocky white head that boasts exceptional retention and "Belgian-style" lacing.

Aroma: The nose is sharp, clean, and elegant. It leads with the scent of freshly baked crackers and honeyed malt, followed by a punchy, floral, and spicy bouquet from the traditional German Noble hops. You may also detect a faint, pleasant hint of lemon zest and dried hay.

Palate: On the tongue, it is light-bodied with a very "brisk" and effervescent mouthfeel. It leads with a delicate, grainy sweetness that is almost immediately overtaken by a firm, drying bitterness. The finish is famously "snappy" and clean, the hallmark of a true German Pils, leaving a lingering herbal and spicy hop note that demands another sip.

Profile: It sits at a highly sessionable 5.2% ABV and features a significant bitterness (approx. 35–40 IBU) that provides the structural "bite" expected of the style.

Technical Notes: This beer is a showcase of traditional European ingredients and methods. It is brewed with 100% German Pilsner malt and hopped exclusively with Hallertau Mittelfrüh and Tettnanger Noble hops. Establishment uses a specialized water treatment to mimic the soft, mineral-rich waters of Germany and subjects the beer to an extended, cold lagering period to achieve its "diamond" clarity and refined finish.
