Product description
Introduction
Pol Roger Pure Extra Brut is a non-vintage Champagne from France, produced in the Épernay region. The Champagne house Pol Roger was founded in 1849 and has a philosophy centred on elegance, balance, and consistency. It is still owned and run by the descendants of the founder. This particular cuvée, 'Pure Extra Brut,' was launched in 2008 and is the house's non-dosage, bone-dry expression. The house aims to showcase the purest expression of the Champagne blend without the addition of any sugar.
Wine Description
The wine has a crystalline appearance with a pale gold hue and a persistent, fine stream of bubbles. The aromatic profile is noted for its freshness and vibrancy, opening with notes of green apple, pear, mandarin peel, and crisp minerality. These are followed by tertiary notes of hazelnut, acacia flower, toasted brioche, and lime blossom.
The blend is typically equal parts, or close to it, of the three main Champagne varieties: 33% Pinot Noir, 33% Pinot Meunier, and 34% Chardonnay. The wine is medium bodied, with a very dry and precise palate. It has a lively, taut acidity that is beautifully integrated with flavours of citrus zest, white peach, and chalky minerality. Stylistically, it is bone dry, pure, and elegant, offering an impressive balance of power and finesse. It is an Extra Brut with zero dosage (0 g/l). The wine is aged for at least three years in the deepest cellars in Épernay. The finish is clean, long, and refreshing, with a touch of saline minerality. The ABV is 12.5%. It is enjoyable now but can be aged for several years. Information on the organic status of the wine is not available in the sources.
