Product description

Teaninich is a Scotch whisky distillery located in the Highlands of Scotland, near the village of Alness. Founded in 1817 by Captain Hugh Munro, who owned the Teaninich Estate, the distillery was built to ensure a consistent buyer for the barley grown on his land. Teaninich is known for its unique production methods, notably being one of only two distilleries in Scotland to use a mash filter instead of a traditional mash tun. The distillery's output is primarily used in blended Scotch whiskies, especially for brands owned by Diageo, which acquired the distillery in 1933. Official single malt bottlings from Teaninich are rare, but independent bottlings are becoming more common.

The Teaninich 8 Year Old Special Release 2025 is a single grain Scotch whisky that resulted from a 2016 'rye experiment'. It was distilled using a mash of malted rye and barley in pot stills and matured in ex-Bourbon casks. The bottling is at a cask strength of 60.3% ABV. The producer describes the whisky as a "rebellious rye experiment" with a "subversive spicy toffee sweetness". It is characterized by deep aromas of cinnamon and clove.

The Teaninich 8 Year Old Special Release 2025 is a result of a 2016 rye experiment, showcasing the distillery's willingness to deviate from tradition and their unique use of a hammer mill. The hammer mill, which grinds malted barley into a powder, also allows the distillery to work with other grains, such as rye.

Food Pairing This whisky's rebellious charm and bold, spicy toffee sweetness would pair well with rich, savoury dishes to enhance its character.
