Introduction

Michter's US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon is a unique expression of Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey from the country of the United States. The Michter's brand has a deep history, tracing its roots to America's first whiskey company, Shenk's Distillery, founded in Pennsylvania in 1753. Today, the brand operates out of Louisville, Kentucky. This expression was originally released in 2014 and pioneered the use of a secondary toasted barrel finish in the American whiskey industry.

Spirit Description

This bourbon begins as Michter's US*1 Kentucky Straight Bourbon. It is then transferred to custom-made, fire-toasted, new American white oak barrels for an additional period of aging, after being fully matured. These unique finishing barrels are air-dried for 18 months and toasted to a precise specification, but are not charred. This secondary maturation contributes to a deep, dark amber colour. The nose is sweet and complex, featuring notes of vanilla, toasted marshmallow, dark honey, and crème brûlée. The palate is rich and luscious, with flavours of sweet, spicy vanilla, dark chocolate, cherry, maple syrup, and balancing spice. The additional time in the toasted barrel imparts a depth of flavour and a velvety mouthfeel. The finish is long, warm, and sweet, often described as having a lingering note of gingerbread. It is bottled at 45.1% ABV.
