Product description

Introduction

Viña Cobos Felino Cabernet Sauvignon 2023 is a red wine from Argentina, produced in the Mendoza region. The wine is made by Viña Cobos, a winery co-founded by American winemaker Paul Hobbs in 1999. Paul Hobbs is a pioneering winemaker who has been instrumental in elevating Malbec and Argentine wines onto the international stage. The winery's philosophy is rooted in meticulous vineyard management and respect for terroir, creating complex, elegant, and authentic wines. The 'Felino' line is intended to be an introduction to the authenticity and varietal purity of the Mendoza terroir.

Wine Description

The wine is 100% Cabernet Sauvignon. It has a deep ruby red colour with black tones. The aromatic profile is intense, offering scents of red pepper and fresh red fruit. Further notes include tobacco, cocoa, and spices like nutmeg.

It is a medium bodied wine. The palate is juicy and concentrated, with supple red fruit flavours. It is round and smooth, with juicy, sinewy tannins that are plush and well balanced. Stylistically, it is a well balanced and impressively delicious wine from Paul Hobbs and his team. The grapes are sourced from both Luján de Cuyo and Valle de Uco, combining the warm and cool, lower and higher elevations of Mendoza. The wine is aged for nine months in American oak barrels, with roughly 10% new oak. The finish is smooth, fairly long, and resonates with fresh red fruit. The ABV is 14.5%. The optimal drinking window is now through 2034. The winery employs sustainable farming methods and uses organic principles in its viticulture.

Food Pairing

This Cabernet Sauvignon pairs very well with grilled steak or other beef dishes. Suggested pairings include lamb, and marinating a skirt steak in soy, garlic, aromatic herbs, and balsamic vinegar before grilling it with a fresh, garlicky chimichurri. It also complements aged cheeses.
