Product description
Introduction
Podere Sapaio 'Sapaio' 2021 is a red wine from Italy, produced in the Tuscany region and the Toscana I.G.T. (Indicazione Geografica Tipica) appellation. The winery was founded in 1999 by Massimo Piccin, a Venetian engineer with a deep passion for wine, in the renowned Bolgheri area. The winery's philosophy is to experiment and innovate, seeking new expressions of Bordeaux varieties in Bolgheri to produce wines that are strong, elegant, and long lasting. The wine uses the 'Sapaio' name, which refers to an ancient, forgotten Tuscan grape variety, as a sign of deep connection to the local terroir.
Wine Description
The wine has a deep ruby red colour with violet reflections. The aromatic profile is complex and seductive, with crushed redcurrants, hints of paprika, and wild strawberries, interwoven with spices, cedar wood, and tobacco. It is a full-bodied wine, showing extra volume and textural richness, while remaining incredibly focused. The varietal composition is a blend of 70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 20% Petit Verdot, and 10% Cabernet Franc. The palate is powerful and gripping, with silky tannins and a mouth-filling structure. Stylistically, it is a seamless, concentrated wine, described as showing brilliant sharpness that distinguishes this vintage. The wine is aged for 18 months in French oak barriques and 10 months in bottle. The finish is long and of balanced intensity. The ABV is 14.5%. The optimal drinking window is long-term, with potential storage noted for 2042+. The wine is organic.
