Groszer Wein Eisenberg Blaufrankisch Reserve 2013

Product description

If you stand on the Eisenberg and gaze off into the distance, in addition to next-door neighbor Hungary you can also see clear across the Steiermark to Slovenia. It is the passion for the distinctive and remarkable terroir of the Eisenberg in Südburgenland that drives Matthias Krön and Markus Bach. On this extraordinary hillside with its old grapevines growing in steeply sloped vineyard sites, unique wines are created. The Blaufränkisch grapes that compose this wine come from vines on the steep south- and west-facing slopes of Eisenberg vineyards Hummergraben and Kroatische Ried. Thanks to the venerable age of the vines and diligent thinning of the crop, we have achieved here a distinctively expressive red wine, matured in wooden casks.

This Blaufränkisch is firm, with a nose that's slightly herbaceous and spicy.  The palate shows ripe blackberries and red berries, a touch of cherry, a hint of licorice, tobacco, woody, and mineral notes.
