Product description
Introduction
Jinro Makguli is a traditional Korean rice wine originating from South Korea. Produced by HiteJinro, a brewery with a history spanning over 100 years, this beverage is crafted using 100% Korean rice and pure spring water. It is made without preservatives or artificial flavours, employing traditional artistry to create a beverage often regarded as one of the best-tasting rice wines globally.
Description
This makgeolli (or makguli) features a milky white, opaque appearance due to being loosely filtered, which retains fine rice particles. It offers a sweet and sour sensory profile with distinct aromas of rice and faint oatsy, chalky notes. On the palate, it is delicate and extremely smooth with a thicker mouthfeel compared to typical pasteurized brews, though it remains easy to drink. The beverage has an alcohol by volume of 6% and a sugar content of approximately 2.3 g/L.
Food Pairing
Jinro Makguli is traditionally served chilled and pairs exceptionally well with 'jeon', which are Korean fried pancakes or fritters, as the creaminess of the wine balances the richness of the oil. Its bright profile also complements spicy marinated meats, pork belly, and savory dishes like braised lamb shanks or five-cheese quiche. For a lighter pairing, it can be enjoyed with a Hawaiian-style chicken salad or a refreshing cucumber and orange raita.
