Introduction

Old and Rare Springbank 31 Year Old is a Single Cask Single Malt Scotch Whisky from the country of Scotland, specifically the Campbeltown region. The original spirit was distilled at the Springbank Distillery, which is one of the three remaining distilleries in Campbeltown. Springbank is distinct for producing three different styles of single malt (Springbank, Longrow, and Hazelburn), malting its own barley, and bottling on site. This expression was independently bottled by Hunter Laing & Co. for their prestigious 'Old & Rare Platinum' series.

Spirit Description

This is a single cask, cask strength whisky, distilled in 1991 and matured for 31 years before being bottled in October 2022. It was aged in a single refill hogshead cask. The refill cask maturation allows the secondary esters and Springbank's complex character to take precedence over heavy oak influence. The colour is described as burnished gold. The nose offers aromas of apricots, Highland toffee, and light smoke. The palate is subtly sweet, with notes of marzipan, peaches, and green herbs. The Springbank house style is coastal, oily, briny coconut, and medium-bodied smoke. The body is rich, complex, and shows remarkable depth from the long maturation. The finish is medium-length and full of fruity hints. It was bottled at cask strength, 49.3% ABV.

This is an extraordinary and collectible release, paying tribute to the craftsmanship of Campbeltown's revered distillery. Only 188 bottles of this single cask single malt were released globally. The older expressions of Springbank are highly sought after by collectors, with this 31 year old bottling considered beyond scarce.
