Togouchi 15 Year Old is an elegant, well-aged blended expression produced by the Sakurao Brewery and Distillery. Continuing the brand's signature maturation style, this whisky is aged in the decommissioned railway tunnel in Akiota, where the temperature is a constant 14°C. At 15 years, the interaction between the spirit and the oak has become much more pronounced than in the younger expressions, resulting in a blend that showcases a sophisticated balance between the spicy malt components and the mellow, sweet grain whiskies.

Whisky Description

The whisky presents a deep golden color, reflecting its long rest in the cool mountain tunnel. On the nose, it is rich and complex, offering aromas of toasted nuts, dark chocolate, and a hint of dried yellow fruits like apricot and plum. The palate is velvety and full-bodied, delivering a deep sweetness of maltose and vanilla, quickly followed by the spicy warmth of white pepper and cinnamon. A refined, earthy peat smoke weaves through the background, providing a mature depth that lingers into the finish. The aftertaste is long and drying, with notes of spicy oak and a faint citrus zest. It is bottled at 43.8% ABV, a slightly higher proof that carries the aged flavors with more intensity.
