Product description
Matsui Single Malt Mizunara Cask is a craft whisky produced by the Matsui Shuzou distillery in the Tottori Prefecture, Japan. Located near Mount Daisen, the distillery benefits from the region's famous spring water, which is filtered through volcanic rock to ensure a pure and soft base for the spirit. Unlike the Kurayoshi series, which is a blend of world malts, this expression is a 100% Japanese single malt distilled at the Matsui distillery. The whisky is matured exclusively in Japanese Mizunara oak, a rare and expensive wood that is notoriously difficult to work with but provides a unique oriental character.
Whisky Description
This single malt is a light gold color in the glass. The nose is incredibly aromatic and floral, dominated by the characteristic Mizunara scent of sandalwood and temple incense, alongside notes of fresh ginger and cinnamon. On the palate, the whisky feels silky and refined, offering flavors of honeyed cereal, sweet vanilla, and a bright zestiness reminiscent of grapefruit. As the spirit develops, the complex spice of the wood becomes more apparent, introducing layers of coconut and white pepper. The finish is crisp and persistent, leaving a lingering trail of spicy oak and a delicate, floral sweetness. It is bottled at 48% ABV and is non-chill filtered with no added caramel color.
